2006 Racing Season November 12, 2006. Connor concluded the 2006 season with a great race at NTK in the Fall 7 event. Connor qualified on outside pole. In the prefinal he quickly moved to the lead and maintained first for the remainder of the race. In the final race Connor, Joe Taylor and Will Hewell had a great race. The three of them swapped the lead many times, often with multiple passes in the same lap. At one point they were three wide on the main straight! At the end Joe Taylor took the win, Connor was second and Will was third. October 15, 2006. With three events left in the NTK season, Connor has clinched both the Fall series and Full Season championships. Connor has also clinched the 2006 KART Southern Regional Championship with one event to go. Throughout the NTK season Connor won every race he entered, except for two where he finished 2nd and 3rd. In the KART regional series he also won every event he entered except for two, where again he finished 2nd and 3rd. Congratulations to Connor for a fantastic 2006 season in Junior 1 !!! October 8, 2006. The first Sunday afternoon event of the Fall at NTK unfortunately brought difficult time to Connor. After running very well in pre-race practice, Connor's kart had serious engine problems in qualifying. With the engine well off song Connor ran over a second slower than his practice times, but still ended up qualifying fourth out of the nine racers. After qualifying, Dad the crew chief, did some serious thrashing replacing many parts and hoping for the best. With no time to test all the changes Connor went out for the prefinal and moved up quickly to 3rd where he finished. Starting third in the final Connor passed for second midway in the race and was pushing hard on first place, when he got passed backed by Joe Taylor, moving up from third. Connor finished third despite turning a fast lap well over 0.2 seconds faster than the two karts in front of him. The top of this field is just too tough to have a bobble anywhere in the event and expect to make it up - blame this one on the crew chief. September 30, 2006. Connor took home his third victory of the NTK Fall season winning the Fall 3 event on Saturday night. This was Pennzoil night at NTK and Connor was a awarded a special first place award, sponsored by Pennzoil. September 16, 2006. Connor had another solid drive at the NTK Fall 2 event in Denton, TX taking his second win in the two race old Fall season. Connor qualified on the pole. In the prefinal Connor dropped to second on the start to Andrew Perkins but regained the lead at the beginning of the second lap. Connor stayed in front until the race was red flagged and ended three laps early due to an incident behind the leaders. In the final Connor took the lead from the start and led every lap - he was followed very closely by Perkins and a hard charging Joe Taylor. September 10, 2006. Connor had a fantastic weekend
at North Texas Kartway in Denton, TX. He raced in two events this
past weekend, the NTK Fall Trophy Dash on Saturday night and round 6 of the
KART Regional Series on Sunday winning
August 26, 2006. Connor won the Summer 7 race at NTK to capture the Summer Season Championship. Connor qualified on the pole and led flag to flag in the prefinal, to start on the pole in the final. In the final Connor had a great battle with his good friend Joe Taylor. Connor and Joe swapped the lead four times, before they tangled in lap 7 at the exit of turn 2. Connor was in the lead and Joe got into Connor's left rear tire, launching him into Connor's seat and shoulder. They both spun off the track and into the tire barrier. Fortunately for Connor he was able to keep his engine running and get back on the track, still in the lead. Connor continued the race, finishing in first, driving with a broken seat! August 12, 2006. Connor returned to club racing action at NTK in the Summer 6 event. He had a great night, qualifying on the pole and leading every lap of the prefinal and final to take the victory. August 6, 2006. Connor competed in the KART regional event at Waco. Connor's number was 2 in this race, qualifying 2nd and finishing 2nd in both the prefinal and final, and bending 2 brake rotors! Connor can probably attribute his 2nd place qualifying position to a last minute setup error, by his crew chief (and Dad). In the races Connor battled closely with the leader throughout, despite bending a brake rotor in each of the two races, still he couldn't find a passing opportunity on the tight Waco track. Connor continues to lead the season point standings in the KART Southern Region. July 29, 2006. Connor competed in the Summer 3 event at NTK on another hot Texas night. With temperatures again over 100 degrees, Connor qualified on the pole and led every lap of the prefinal. In the final race, Connor's good friend Joe Taylor passed him on the start and successfully held Connor off for the entire race. Although right on Joe's bumper Connor couldn't find a way around and finished second. July 15, 2006. Connor raced the Summer 3 event at NTK in Denton. In searing heat, between 100 and 105 degrees, he had a very strong race. Connor qualified on the pole and led every lap of the prefinal and final to take the victory. July 8, 2006. Connor was back to local racing action at the Summer 2 race at North Texas Karters. Connor made his return very interesting. After qualifying on the pole and leading every lap of the prefinal Connor mistakenly exited the track into the pits on the white flag lap, before the race was complete. With vision difficult looking into a setting sun at the flag stand, Connor thought the white flag was actually the checkered and pulled off the track thinking the race was complete. This meant a last place finish in the prefinal and a start at the back of the field for the final. In the final Connor had a great drive, passing the field to take the win. Connor narrowly avoided a mishap in turn 3, when the 2nd place kart at the time spun in front of him. Fortunately Connor was able to miss the spinning kart and chase down first place, to make the final pass and take the win. June 21-24, 2005. Connor participated in three classes at the KART Nationals at JRP Speedway in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He raced in Junior 1 Light, Medium and Heavy classes, finishing 6th, 5th and 7th respectively. Connor qualified 3rd in each class but fell back on the starts in all races. Despite fast lap times this made moving back up very difficult on the tight and difficult to pass on JRP track. Connor consistently ran 2nd or 3rd fastest lap times in each race. The first two days Connor had to deal with extensive rain delays, and drastically changing track conditions, yet turned in a solid performance. Most importantly we had lots of fun! Next up is the Summer 2 race at NTK in Denton on July 8. June 3, 2006. Connor wrapped up
his points win in the NTK Spring series with a
May 22, 2006. In preparation for the upcoming KART Nationals, Connor traveled to Tulsa to get in a day of practice on Saturday and to race in the Tulsa Kart Club local race on Sunday afternoon. After 15 practice sessions in the 95 degree heat over two days Connor finished 2nd in the final. After making a nice pass on the start to take the lead from outside pole, he led most of the race, but ended up finishing 2nd to the strong local competition. May 13-14, 2006. Rounds 3 and 4 of the KART Regional
Series were in
Sunday morning brought big weather changes to Waco, with lots of rain, thunder and lightning. Despite the weather Connor put in a lot practice on the wet track, consistently running laps several seconds faster than the other competitors. The race directors made the decision to cancel qualifying and start the prefinal in the qualifying order from Saturday, this put Connor on the pole again. By the prefinal the rain had stopped but the track was still wet so Connor exited the pit lane on his wet setup - however he only made the first 3 turns of the warm up lap before his engine shut down for unknown reasons. Connor was out of the prefinal and did not take the green flag and so was forced to start last in the final. Connor put on an awesome display of his driving ability in
the final - starting last he quickly moved up to 4th midway through the
first lap, but made contact with his best friend Joe Taylor, exiting the
tight hairpin leading onto the main straight. The contact
April 29, 2006. The Spring 5 race at NTK marked Connor's return to first race under the lights in 2006. April 23, 2006. Connor returned to club racing action at NTK for the Spring 4 event in Denton, TX. He had a great night, qualifying on the pole and leading every lap of the prefinal and final to take the victory. April 2, 2006. Connor raced in Round 2 of the KART Southern Regional Sprint series this weekend at JRP Raceway in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This was Connor's first race at the new track in Tulsa and he immediately declared it his favorite track. Connor qualified on the outside pole, out of 16 entrants. In the prefinal he dropped back to third on the start, but within 4 laps passed back to regain second position where he finished. The start of the final was a carbon copy of the prefinal, Connor on the tough outside line was again pushed back to third after the first turn. He managed to regain second, after about 5 laps, and maintained second until the last lap. On the last lap with the third place driver right on Connor's bumper a back marker spun in front of them, Connor had to brake hard to miss him, and lost second position in the process. With no time to recover Connor finished third, by only half a kart length at the line. March 26, 2006. After a 1 week delay due to the rain out of the Spring 1 event at NTK Connor began the 2006 Spring Series with a nice drive to victory. Connor qualified on the pole, won the prefinal and went on to win the final, leading every lap along the way. Spring 2 Results Connor won the 12 lap final with over 11 seconds of margin to the second place kart. Next up is round 2 of the KART regional series at Tulsa, Oklahoma April 1st and 2nd. March 13, 2006. Connor began his 2006 KART Regional racing series with a dominant victory at the NTK track in Denton, Texas. Connor began the day by qualifying on the pole with over a 0.7 second margin to the second place driver. In the 12 lap prefinal he took the lead on the start and maintained it comfortably for the victory setting up a pole position start for the final. Again in the final Connor drove to the initial lead and never looked back. He led every lap of the final to take the victory for his first victory of the season. Next up on the schedule is the opening race of the NTK Spring series, on March 19. February 12, 2006. Connor turned in his third 2nd place finish in a row in the Polar Bear 3 race today. Once he again he had a tight battle for the first but ended up finishing second by only half a kart length. Connor qualified on the pole, by 0.087 seconds Qualifying results. He finished second in the prefinal to start outside pole for the final. During the final Connor took the early lead with a nice pass to start the second lap, he then stayed in first until the white flag lap, when the second place kart driven by Tyler Thomas was able to draft by Connor to regain the lead. Connor came back strong to the start-finish line, but ended up in second by 0.173 seconds. Connor had a margin of over 4 seconds over the 3rd place kart at the finish. Results January 29, 2006. Connor finished second in the Polar Bear 2 race at NTK. Connor raced strong all day, qualifying on the pole and winning the pre-final. The final was a very exciting show as Connor and Tyler Thomas traded the lead 5 times during the 12 lap race. Unfortunately for Connor he ended up a very close 2nd at the end. January 15, 2006. Connor attended the 2005 Awards banquet for NTK, picking up the 2nd place trophy and a very significant check (for a 10 year old) as a result of his points finish for the 21 race 2005 NTK season.
